For more than two decades, the International Medieval Society-Paris (IMS-Paris) has fostered interdisciplinary intellectual exchanges between international specialists in medieval studies and their colleagues in France. A bilingual non-profit association founded in Paris in 2003 by Meredith Cohen (UCLA) and Danielle Johnson (Wells College, Paris), IMS-Paris today has a dynamic group of art and cultural historians. architecture, historians, musicologists, and literature specialists from around the world among its members. We organize numerous activities throughout the year for the benefit of medievalists carrying out research in France and to help French academics gain visibility at international conferences in Europe and America.

Every year, many researchers come to Paris to continue their research on the Middle Ages. Because most work in isolation, they waste valuable time simply navigating between different institutions and gaining access to specialized organizations. Many opportunities are thus lost. The International Society of Medievalists aims to solve this problem by creating a center for international researchers in Paris.

In 2009, the IMS became officially affiliated with the Laboratoire de Médiévistique occidentale de Paris (LaMOP) of Paris 1-Sorbonne.
